Lepenski vir is one of the largest and most significant Mesolithic and neolithic archaeological sites. It is located on the right bank of the Danube. in Đerdapska gorges, in Serbia, in the central part of Balkan peninsula. This locality, which got its name from the Danube /a>viru, was the seat of one of the most important and complex cultures prehistory. Between 1965. and 1970. a fishing and hunting settlement with the beginnings of cultivation was discovered and domestication. During the excavations, seven successive settlements and 136 were discovered buildings (both residential and religious) built in the early Mesolithic, in period from around 9500 to 7200 BC (Proto Lepenski vir 1 and 2), and then in the early and middle Neolithic, from about 6250 to 5500 BC (Lepenski Vir I-III).[1] p>
Djerdap National Park is located in the southwestern part of Europe, in north-eastern part Republic of Serbia, on the very international border with Romania. Total area National Park amounts 93,968 hectares, and the protection zone covers 63,608 hectares. Đerdap, the Iron Gate, has been a challenge for travelers, merchants, and warriors for thousands of years and peacemakers. It is the door between two important cultural and economic parts of the world, between the lower and middle Danube.
